While using Teravent and its associated services (“the Services”), you must read and understand
Teravent’s applicable policies (the “Policies”), including this Environmental and Social Policy and the
Teravent Privacy Policy.
Effective on April 17, 2025
Teravent is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and independence
in all aspects of its carbon removal registry operations. This Policy is designed to ensure that all
Users, Suppliers, Buyers, and stakeholders engage with Teravent in a manner that avoids improper
influence, prevents conflicts of interest, and upholds the credibility and trustworthiness of the
registry ecosystem.
1. Purpose
Teravent’s mission is to accelerate the deployment of carbon removal solutions in a manner that
is both rapid and responsible. We place equal emphasis on scale and accountability, with a
particular focus on ensuring responsible practices. Our business model is intentionally designed
to prevent conflicts of interest that can undermine trust, credibility, and effectiveness in the
carbon removal ecosystem.
Integrity, transparency, and accountability are central to Teravent’s purpose. They are essential
for delivering credible, verifiable carbon dioxide removal - a critical step in addressing the
climate crisis.
The Teravent Environmental and Social Policy (“Policy”) reflects these principles and aligns with
globally recognized best practices, including ISO 14001 standards. It is structured to:
- Minimize Teravent’s environmental footprint, including energy use and emissions; and
- Promote the health, safety, and well-being of employees, partners, and the communities where
we operate.
Through this Policy, Teravent ensures that our growth and business operations consistently
advance climate solutions while maintaining accountability, transparency, and social
responsibility.
2. Scope
This Policy applies to all Teravent employees. The organisation will communicate the importance
of environmental and social responsibility to all staff and stakeholders, including contractors
and partners. All employees are expected to familiarize themselves with this Policy and any
specific requirements relevant to their roles.
This Policy covers Teravent’s internal environmental and social commitments. Requirements for
carbon removal suppliers and project partners are set out in Teravent’s Standards, Protocols,
and Modules, which are independently audited for compliance as part of the credit issuance
process.
3. Requirements
At Teravent, environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and operational integrity are not
separate considerations, they are core to everything we do. We recognize that achieving
meaningful climate impact requires embedding sustainability and social accountability into every
aspect of our operations, from product development and procurement to employee well-being and
community engagement.
This section outlines the guiding principles and practical measures Teravent employs to minimize
our environmental footprint, promote health and safety, foster inclusive and equitable
workplaces, and drive innovation responsibly. By integrating these commitments into our daily
practices, we ensure that our growth aligns with the broader goal of advancing climate solutions
with transparency, accountability, and positive social impact.
3.1. Approach
Teravent integrates environmental and social responsibility into all aspects of operations. Our
commitments include:
- Continuously improving environmental and social performance by embedding best practices in
all business activities;
- Complying with, and where feasible exceeding, regulatory, voluntary, and internal
environmental and social standards;
- Incorporating sustainability considerations into procurement and operations to minimize
resource consumption and encourage efficiency; and
- Building partnerships with organisations and initiatives that share our mission of advancing
environmental sustainability and social well-being.
3.2. Health, Safety, and Community Well-being
Teravent is committed to the safety, health, and well-being of employees, partners, and local
communities. This includes:
- Respecting human rights in line with internationally recognized principles, treating all
individuals with dignity, fairness, and equality;
- Maintaining a safe, inclusive, and discrimination-free workplace with fair employment
practices;
- Providing appropriate safety equipment and training to employees;
- Promoting well-being, mental health, and work–life balance through programs, resources, and
training;
- Advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through inclusive policies and practices;
- Engaging responsibly with local communities, addressing incidents proactively and
transparently; and
- Supporting community initiatives related to health, education, and social welfare.
3.3. Sustainable Operations and Innovation
Even as a primarily digital company, Teravent is committed to minimizing its environmental
footprint and embedding sustainability into operational and technological practices. This
includes:
- Sustainable Product and Technology Development: Developing products with energy efficiency,
sustainable IT architecture, and practices that reduce environmental impact.
- Operational Efficiency and Resource Conservation: Minimizing waste, preventing pollution,
and optimizing the use of natural resources through responsible operations.
- Sustainable Business Travel Practices: Teravent actively seeks to reduce the environmental
impact associated with business travel by prioritizing low-carbon alternatives wherever
possible. Virtual collaboration is encouraged as the primary mode for meetings, workshops,
and cross-regional team interactions, significantly reducing the need for travel related
emissions. When inperson meetings are essential, travel is carefully planned and
consolidated to minimize the overall distance and frequency of journeys. This includes
strategically scheduling client visits, internal engagements, and industry events to
maximize efficiency and reduce redundant travel. For participation in industry conferences
or multiparty events, Teravent coordinates travel to ensure that each trip achieves maximum
value - for example, by meeting multiple stakeholders in a single location over a condensed
timeframe, thereby limiting the cumulative environmental footprint. Through these measures,
Teravent ensures that operational effectiveness and human connection are maintained while
responsibly managing the environmental impact of business travel.
- Team Gatherings and Off-Site Events: Limiting in-person team gatherings to essential events,
ideally near main offices to reduce travel and scheduling events to coincide with planned
workweeks and prioritizing locations accessible by low-carbon transport.
Through these measures, Teravent ensures that operational excellence and environmental
responsibility are mutually reinforced.
3.4. Ongoing Engagement and Review
Teravent is committed to continuous improvement, transparency, and collaboration in environmental
and social responsibility. To achieve this, we:
- Dedicate resources to scaling carbon removal responsibly and effectively;
- Share knowledge and insights with industry and academic partners to advance climate
innovation;
- Engage constructively with policymakers to support science-based regulatory frameworks for
carbon removal; and
- Conduct regular audits and self-assessments to monitor compliance, report progress to the
Board, and drive ongoing improvement.
4. Expectations of Business Partners
While this Policy is not legally binding for Teravent’s partners, suppliers, or buyers, we expect
them to uphold similar environmental and social principles. Teravent actively collaborates with
partners through knowledge sharing, training, and capacity-building to strengthen collective
responsibility.
Where concerns arise regarding a partner’s environmental or social practices, Teravent will:
- Clearly communicate expectations and work collaboratively to resolve issues; and
- Discontinue partnerships if satisfactory assurances cannot be obtained, in alignment with
our ethical and sustainability commitments.
5. Violations and Policy Review
- Reporting Violations: Employees are expected to report any actual or potential violation of
this Policy promptly to their Line Manager or through designated reporting channels.
- Disciplinary Action: Teravent may take disciplinary action against employees in breach of
this Policy, up to and including termination of employment, in line with contractual and
legal provisions.
- Policy Review and Updates: This Policy will be reviewed at least annually and updated as
needed to reflect best practices, regulatory changes, and Teravent’s evolving commitments to
environmental and social responsibility.
